News Music in a Box Begins NYC Life w/ Starry Benefit April 26 Music in a Box , a new Off-Broadway theatre company, will hold a benefit April 26 at the 28th Street Theater. Featured in the evening of musicals will be the works of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt (The Fantasticks), Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire (Baby, Closer than Ever), Douglas J. Cohen (No Way to Treat a Lady), Robert Waldman (The Robber Bridegroon) and Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island) performed by the likes of Karen Ziemba, Liz Callaway, Judith Blazer, Jason Daniely, Marin Mazzie and Bryan Batt.

Music in a Box , a new Off-Broadway theatre company, will hold a benefit April 26 at the 28th Street Theater. Featured in the evening of musicals will be the works of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt (The Fantasticks), Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire (Baby, Closer than Ever), Douglas J. Cohen (No Way to Treat a Lady), Robert Waldman (The Robber Bridegroon) and Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island) performed by the likes of Karen Ziemba, Liz Callaway, Judith Blazer, Jason Daniely, Marin Mazzie and Bryan Batt.

Lyricist-librettist Jones will host the event. Writing partner Schmidt and Chicago's Ziemba will sing from their musicals. Callaway (Cats) will perform with Maltby and Shire, and Cohen will offer his own work. Blazer (Titanic), Jason Daniely (Floyd Collins, Candide) and Mazzie (Ragtime), after an introduction from lyricist Ahrens, will perform songs written with composer Flaherty.

Pulitzer, Oscar and Tony Award winner Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) will also be on hand with his partner Waldman to offer words of support and a song sung by Bryan Batt (The Scarlet Pimpernel).

The benefit performance will be presented by MIB's founding members: Artistic Director Gregory Bossler, General Counsel Cheryl Davis, Resident Director-Choreographer Lindsey Hanahan, Musical Supervisor C. Colby Sachs, and Managing Director Ralph Sevush.

The MIB ensemble includes Trent Bright, Roosevelt Andre Credit, Charles Eversole, Micahel J. Farina, Laura Fois, Frank Mastrone (Jekyll & Hyde), Mardie Millit, Selna Nelson, Florence Sturgeon and John Wasiniak. Tickets for the benefit are $45 and include a wine and cheese reception at 7PM and dessert after the show. Reservations can be made by calling the MIB Hotline at (914) 337-5095.
