From July 9-11 the famed Chorus will offer You Made Me Love You: The Music of Judy Garland. Conducted by artistic director Dr. Bruce Mayhall, the concerts will play the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA. Show time is 8 PM July 9 and 10 and 3 PM July 11. Concertgoers can expect to hear such Garland standards as "Happy Days Are Here Again," "Get Happy," "Zing Went the String of My Heart," "But Not for Me," "The Man That Got Away," "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" and "The Boy Next Door."
In addition to her historic work on film and stage, the death of Judy Garland sparked the Stonewall Riot, which was one of the touchstones of the gay and lesbian civil rights movement. The upcoming concerts, according to a statement, will "look back to a legend, an icon, an inspiration — as we move forward — in celebration and in song."
The Alex Theatre is located at 216 N. Brand Blvd. in Glendale, CA. Tickets, priced $15-$70, are available by calling (800) 636-7464. For more information visit www.gmcla.org.
