News Musical Kiss of the Spider Woman Returns to NYC Via Vortex Theatre Co. The Vortex Theater Company will bring back the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman to New York City in September.

Gisela Cardenas (Agamemnon) will direct the musical, which is slated to begin Sept. 10 at the refurbished Sanford Meisner Theater for a run through Oct. 6.

John Kander, Fred Ebb and Terrence McNally's musical take on Manuel Puig's "dark tale of torture and imprisonment" will undergo a new staging that, according to an announcement, will "join political ideology with a cabaret aesthetic."

Milica Paranosic will provide musical direction. The design team features Jian Jung (set), Lucrecia Briceno (lighting) and Oana Botez-Ban (costumes). Cara Scarmack serves as assistant director.

The Vortex has been in residence at the Sanford Meisner Theater since 1983. The company, which "is dedicated to creating and producing a diverse range of classical texts reconstructed for a contemporary audience," earned a 2007 Drama Desk nomination for its revival of H.M.S. Pinafore. Previous productions include Agamemnon, In Delirium: after the sorrows of young werther, Deviant and Bathsheba Doran's adaptation of Maurice Maeterlink's the blind.
