Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley's Violet began previews March 23 and officially opened March 26.

Based on the Doris Betts short story, "The Ugliest Pilgrim," Violet, tells of a young woman who travels across the South, seeking an evangelist whom she believes can cure her disfigured face. Along the way she meets two soldiers who become her traveling companions. Jeanine Tesori (Twelfth Night, First Picture Show) wrote the score with Brian Crawley providing the book and lyrics.

Violet is directed by Bill Fennelly. Robert Egizi choreographs, with Britt Davis providing musical direction.

The musical's 1997 Off-Broadway mounting garnered the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the Richard Rodgers Production Award. Featured in the Georgia staging are Rebekah Baty (Violet), Geoff Smith, Gavin Gregory, Wayne Coleman, Bryan Davis and Megan Stern. Designing the show are H. Bart McGeehon (lighting), Rochelle Barker (set) and Kenton McGhee (costumes).
