Phoenix Productions presents the Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs musical Grease which will play at the California venue Jan. 20-30, 2005 while NETworks presents Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II classic Oklahoma! to run Feb. 1-13, 2005.
Recording artist and "Beach Blanket Bingo" star Frankie Avalon reprises his movie role singing "Beauty School Dropout" in the musical which follows Rydell High School students and the romance of Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski.
By special arrangement, this production features three songs from the movie not usually performed in the stage version: "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "You’re The One That I Want" and Barry Gibb's "Grease."
Ray DeMattis directs Grease with choreography by Christopher Gattelli. The design team includes James Youmans(set), Wendall Goings (costumes), Mike Baldassari (lighting) and Steve Bishop (sound) — who also provides musical direction.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! receives a new national tour adapted from the Cameron Mackintosh presentation of the Royal National Theatre production directed by Trevor Nunn with choreography by Susan Stroman. Fred Hanson directs with choreography by Ginger Thatcher. The story of the farm girl caught between two admirers is set at the turn-of-the-century southern territory. Based on Lynn Riggs' play Green Grow The Lilacs, the work features such memorable numbers as "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'," "The Surrey With The Fringe On Top" and the title song.
The original designs of Anthony Ward (sets and costumes) and David Hersey (lighting) have been recreated for the tour.
