The winner is Alfie, a one-year-old Maltipoo from New Jersey, who was named top dog over seven other finalists, including Carmine the Pomeranian Shih Tzu, Maya the Maltese, Dustin the terrier mix, Hugh Jackman the Cocker Poodle, Scout the Labradoodle, Teddy the mini Goldendoodle and AJ the Schnauzer.
Alfie will have his picture built into the set, and the photo will be revealed at the end of every performance during a scene where Sylvia’s owner looks at a photo of her.
Auditions were held Aug. 3. The panel of judges included Tony Award winner Julie White, two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee A. R. Gurney, and producer Daryl Roth. Owners were asked to prepare a 60-second bio for their dog, as well as one special trick for the animal to do. All dogs were asked to demonstrate their ability to “stay” and pose for a photo.
Alfie's owners will receive a pair of tickets to the opening-night performance of Sylvia on Oct. 27 at the Cort Theatre (138 W. 48th Street).
Tickets for Sylvia are on sale to the public online at Telecharge.com or by calling (212) 239-6200. Previews begin Oct. 2.
