The Citation Wing of the Joseph Jefferson Awards Committee announced the winners June 11 for its annual Jeff Citations for excellence in non-union theatre in the Chicago area. Among the winners announced at an evening ceremony at Park West on Armitage Avenue, TimeLine Theatre topped the list and last year's big winner, Circle Theatre (6), with seven awards.

Performer and Northlight Theatre artistic director BJ Jones served as master of ceremonies for the event, which also featured scenes from nominated shows. The Eclipse Theatre, which garnered 11 nominations, took home the night's silver with five awards and Lifeline Theatre, which held the most nominations (12), took home four.

A special Citation were presented to the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation for their funding, advocacy, education, and nurturing in support of Chicago's off-Loop theatre. And another special Citation was given to Joseph Butch Gniadek, master usher and permanent fixture in Chicago theatre's opening nights since the early 1980's. Due to a recent illness, he was forced to leave the hectic theatre schedule.

The Jeff Committee judged 108 productions from 49 producing organizations, staged between April 1, 2000-March 31, 2001. The "non competitive" awards may have multiple winners in various categories, according to spokesperson Bruce K. Siewerth.
