The gay comedy-drama My Night with Reg, by Kevin Elyot, will have its West Coast premiere at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco, Mar. 26-May 16.
The director is Ed Decker.
Reminiscent of Love! Valour! Compassion! Elyot's play follows a "family" of six gay men living in London in the age of AIDS. Each tries to cope while juggling sexual, romantic and personal lives. Like Beckett's Godot, Reg is talked about but never appears.
Reg first opened at the Royal Court Theatre's Upstairs space, Mar. 31, 1994 and moved to London's Criterion Theatre Nov. 15, 1994. Elyot won the 1995 London Critics Circle's Most Promising Newcomer Award for the piece, and also took home the 1994 Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy.
Elyot's newest play, The Day I Stood Still, opened in early 1998 to good reviews at the Royal National Theatre in London. Performances of My Night with Regare Wed.-Sat. at 8 PM, with select Sun. matinees at 2 PM (April 19, April 26 and May 3) at the New Conservatory Theatre Center, 25 Van Ness Ave (near Market). For tickets, $16 and $20, call (415) 861-8972.
