The multi-media presentation My Sister, My Sister will replace Waking Up! at San Francisco's New Conservatory Theatre's Celebrating Women Festival. The Betty McAfee piece Waking Up! was set to begin performances Aug. 5, but was canceled because of the author-performer's health concerns. Instead, Sister, the work of photographer Meredith Stout and Zelma Brown, will run at the New Conservatory Theatre Center from Aug. 7-22. Sister is a 55-minute examination of homeless women and their children through slides and readings of Brown's poetry by Shadow Voices (Kimberley Brown, Zelma Brown, Flavian Jackson, Tracy Porche and Tenise Smith). The My Sister Project began at the Women's Drop-In Center, a homeless shelter in Berkley. McAfee, who was involved in the project's infancy, recommended Sister for her show's replacement.
Tickets are $12 and available by calling the New Conservatory Theatre Center Box Office at (415) 861-8972. The New Conservatory Theatre Center is located at 25 Van Ness Avenue.
