News Mysterious Photo Sets Off Unknown Soldier Musical, Starring Estelle Parsons, Derek Klena and Lauren Worsham at Williamstown The haunting new musical Unknown Soldier, about a photograph that leads a woman on a journey to uncover the truth about her deceased grandmother and a soldier in a photograph, officially opens Aug. 1 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Trip Cullman directs the original work that has music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, and book and lyrics by Daniel Goldstein. Music direction is by Marco Paguia. Performances continue through Aug. 9.

The cast features David Greenspan (The Boys in the Band, Faust), Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons ("Bonnie and Clyde," August: Osage County), Eric Lochtefeld (The Seagull, Our Town), Tony nominee Lauren Worsham (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder), Jessica Phillips (Leap of Faith, Next to Normal), Derek Klena (The Bridges of Madison County), Clara Young (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown) and Christina Sajous (Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark).

Here's how it's billed: "Ellen Rabinowitz sets out to understand her past after she discovers an enigmatic photograph while cleaning out her deceased grandmother’s home. As she chases the truth about the soldier featured in the photo, Ellen is drawn into a tangle of historical facts and mysteries that lead her to surprising love stories and unexpected truths. Unknown Soldier delves into memory and family mythology, asking how – or even whether – the past shows us who we are."

The creative team also includes scenic design by Mark Wendland, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Leon Rothenberg, hair and wigs by Charles LaPoint and projection designs by Lucy Mackinnon. Becky Fleming serves as the production stage manager.
