Regional News Nashville Children's Theatre Taps World Premiere of Hans Christian Andersen Musical The new musical will feature music by Frank Loesser and an original libretto by Timothy Allen McDonald.

As part of its 2019–2020 season, Nashville Children's Theatre will present the world premiere of Hans Christian Andersen. Based on the real life of the author, the new musical features a score by Broadway composer Frank Loesser (who wrote the music for the 1952 film of the same name) and an original libretto by Timothy Allen McDonald.

Hans Christian Andersen will run February 20–March 15, 2020.

Prior, the season will launch late summer with the world premiere of Ernie Nolan's play The Itsy Bitsy Spider (August 10–September 22), followed by Return to Sender, the story of two young people who are forced to confront the complexities of immigration (October 10–27). The play is written by Marisela Treviño Orta, based on the novel of the same name by Julia Alvarez.

In celebration of the holiday season, NCT will present the world premiere of Auntie Claus, a musical with a book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler with music by Zina Goldrich (November 14–December 29); following is the Nashville regional premiere of Wendy Lement's Secret Soldiers: Civil War Heroines in Disguise, based on the real military accounts of women who fought as Union Soldiers (January 16–February 3).

Rounding out the season will be a new production of Nolan's The Teddy Bears' Picnic (March 7–April 19), plus the musical Pete the Cat, adapted from the book series, featuring a book and lyrics by Sarah Hammond and music by Will Aronson.
