Classic Arts News National Philharmonic Bids Farewell to Fitzgerald Theatre With World Premiere Maryland's National Philharmonic gives its last performance in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville tonight, in a concert featuring the world premiere of Steven Gerber's Clarinet Concerto.
The Philharmonic moves to the brand-new Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda next month.

Tonight's concert, led by music director Piotr Gajewski, also features Haydn's "Farewell" Symphony and Grieg's Holberg Suite. Jon Manasse, the principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, performs the solo part in Gerber's new work.

The $100 million Music Center at Strathmore will open with an inaugural concert on February 5; the Philharmonic's first performance there is February 12. The Baltimore Symphony will also perform at the venue regularly.
