News National Tour of Grease to End in May; Franklin to Join Cast The national tour of the family-friendly musical Grease will end its run May 23 at the Palace Theatre in Cleveland, OH.

"This leg of the tour is ending in Cleveland on May 23 and will not play Boston as planned," according to one of the musical's producers. Grease had been scheduled to play Boston's Opera House June 1-13.

The national tour of the 1950s-themed musical launched Dec. 2, 2008, at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI.

Josh Franklin will replace "American Idol" finalist Ace Young — who is heading to Broadway's Hair — in the role of Danny beginning Feb. 19 in Washington, DC. Franklin just completed a year with the national tour of Jersey Boys in the role of Bob Gaudio.

The tour continues to star "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks as the Teen Angel, Lauren Ashley Zakrin as Sandy, Will Blum as Roger, Bridie Carroll as Jan, Kate Morgan Chadwick as Frenchy, Laura D’Andre as Rizzo, Kelly Felthous as Marty, Allison Fischer as Patty Simcox, Dominic Fortuna as Vince Fontaine, Jesse JP Johnson as Doody, Roxie Lucas as Miss Lynch, David Ruffin as Kenickie, Jamison Scott as Eugene and Nick Verina as Sonny.

The ensemble features Joseph Corella, Preston Ellis, Erin Henry, Ruby Lewis, Dayla Perkins, Mark Raumaker, Mike Russo, Matthew William Schmidt, Christina Sivrich and Elizabeth Stacey. "After spending a hopelessly devoted summer with Sandy Dumbrowski, the new girl in town," press notes state, "Danny Zuko's world is thrown upside down when Sandy appears at Rydell High on the first day of school. What follows is a rock 'n' roll celebration of growin' up, cruisin' with friends and goin' steady."

Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, Grease features scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Martin Pakledinaz, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Brian Ronan.

Grease features book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The new production also boasts songs from the hit 1978 film, which co-starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Among the film songs heard in the touring production of the recent Broadway revival are "Sandy," "Hopelessly Devoted to You," "Grease" and "You're the One That I Want."

The new cast recording of Grease is available on the Masterworks Broadway label.
