NBC has passed on renewing Rise, the new drama about a high school theatre program, for a second season. The series ended with the season finale May 15.

The series, from Friday Night Lights' Jason Katims and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller, is based on Michael Sokolove’s book Drama High, about Pennsylvania drama director Lou Volpe.

Josh Radnor stars as Lou Mazzuchelli, an English teacher who revitalizes the Stanton High theatre program by putting on a production of Spring Awakening. This leads to a backlash from the more conservative school district and an exploration of gender politics and personal awakenings of teenage theatre students.

The series culminated with "Opening Night," in which Lou and his students finally present their production of the Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater musical. All 10 episodes of the series are available to stream on NBC.com.

Radnor is joined on screen by Rosie Perez, Auli'i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, Shirley Rumierk, and Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block.
