Playmakers Repertory Company opens its 23rd season with Shakespeare's The Tempest, featuring soap star Patrick Tovatt, Sept. 23-Oct. 18. The comedy/drama officially opens Sept. 26. The Tempest, Shakespeare's last play, is set on a desert island where the banished Duke Prospero raises his daughter, Miranda. He studies magic and harnesses the forces of the natural world until the fateful hour when his usurpers fall within his revenge.
Tovatt is known nationally for his ten-year stint on the hit soap opera, "As the World Turns." Tempest is not his first foray to the stage; Tovatt is a founding member of both the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and the Virginia Stage Company. He also appeared in the Tony-winning Broadway revival of Thorton Wilder's Our Town.
PlayMakers Rep is housed at the Paul Green Theatre on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Milly S. Barranger serves as producing director of the Equity theatre.
