Nederlander — known for its venues and operations around the globe, including Broadway theatres — is seeking to create a circuit of small regional houses in which to program intimate Off-Broadway-style productions. The first of these venues is the Bethesda Theatre, newly renovated as a legitimate house, which will open this fall with the metro-Washington premiere of the Off-Broadway hit I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
Nederlander Worldwide also has plans to include the Post Street and Marines Memorial Theatres in San Francisco and the Proscenium Theatre in Sarasota, FL, as part of the regional circuit.
The Bethesda Theatre season begins with I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change on Oct. 4, running through Dec. 31. The cast includes Tim Warmen, Scott Evans, Jeane Arbeiter, and Marcia Henderson.
The creative team will include Andy Gale (director), Vince DeMura (musical director), Brandon McWilliams (costume designer), and Neil McFadden (sound designer). Ray Cullom serves as executive director for the Bethesda Theatre.
The Bethesda season will also feature Steve Solomon's My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish & I'm in Therapy (Feb. 21-March 26, 2008) and Smokey Joe's Café opening April 3, 2008, with a tour likely to follow. Tickets and further information is available by visiting www.bethesdatheatre.com.
