In a Dec. 11 telephone press conference, Jed Bernstein, League executive director, told the assembled the line was launched on that morning's Rosie O'Donnell show, with Rosie purchasing tickets to Triumph Of Love.

Said Bernstein, "It's one line for accessible information about Broadway. Like a department store -- the ultimate customer service function." Users can also purchase full-price Broadway tickets through the line -- by being patched directly to Telecharge and Ticketmaster, for the usual service charges.

Other special aspects of the Broadway Line include star recordings and greetings -- such as the one Marilu Henner does for Chicago (sampled at the press conference) -- a trivia quiz created by The New York Times, and information on Kids Night On Broadway and the Broadway Club For Kids. Travel information on Continental Airlines is also available.

Bernstein projects that in three months, the line will also include information on Broadway touring productions to the 200 out-of-town League member theatres in 90 cities. -- By David Lefkowitz
