Harris has a long association with the Jonathan Larson musical: He played Mark Cohen in both the Los Angeles and second national touring productions of the Tony-winning Rent. His performance garnered him a Drama League Award.
Tim Weil, the original musical supervisor and conductor for Broadway's Rent, will be the musical director for the Hollywood Bowl's fully staged production.
Three performances of Rent will be seen at the famed California venue Aug. 6-8. The Bowl has presented acclaimed productions of Les Miserables and Guys and Dolls in recent summers.
Casting and further creative team members will be announced at a later date.
Neil Patrick Harris has been seen on Broadway in Assassins, Cabaret and Proof. He appeared in the Geffen Playhouse's production of All My Sons as well as the L.A. company of Rent, the Reprise! production of Sweeney Todd and the London mounting of tick, tick . . . BOOM! His screen credits include the current "How I Met Your Mother" as well as "Undercover Brother," "Doogie Howser, M.D.," "Stark Raving Mad" and "Joan of Arc." Harris also hosted the 63rd Tony Awards and the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards.
