Classic Arts News Netrebko-Villaz‹n Traviata Sets Sales Record in Austria Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villaz‹n's recording of Verdi's La traviata has sold 30,000 copies in Austria, a landmark never before reached by an opera recording.
According to the Austrian Associated Press, IFPI Austria, the local branch of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, will present a platinum record award to Netrebko, Villaz‹n, and the Vienna Philharmonic on May 7 at the Vienna State Opera.

The album, recorded at the 2005 Salzburg Festival, features Netrebko as Violetta, Villaz‹n as Alfredo, and Thomas Hampson as Giorgio. Carlo Rizzi conducts the Philharmonic.

Both the two-CD complete version of the recording and a one-disc collection of excerpts have spent time on the Billboard classical chart. A DVD will be released this month.
