Neu's Gang of Seven to Premiere at LaMaMa Dec. 4 | Playbill

News Neu's Gang of Seven to Premiere at LaMaMa Dec. 4
Playwright and actor Jim Neu will return to La MaMa e.t.c. to premiere his latest comedy, Gang of Seven, which will begin performances Dec. 4.

Frequent Neu collaborator Keith McDermott will direct the play that centers on the growing trend of American focus groups. Gang of Seven will continue through Dec. 21.

The cast also features Mary Shultz, Tony Nunziata, Chris Maresca, John Costelloe, Byron Thomas and Kristine Lee.

Gang of Seven, according to press notes, "cunningly anticipates what will happen when ordinary gatherings for market research get infected with the human potential movement. Alone, this play's 'Gang of Seven' are harmless normal citizens. Together, their volatile mix of personal chemistries creates an explosive brew of attitude, greed and collective identity. They are so empowered with team spirit that they begin to feel omnipotent. We see them pushing their mental envelopes, re-imagining their group as the grand information assembler, chosen to reorder reality for the country, or maybe the world."

The LaMaMa premiere has set design by David Fritz and costume design by Meg Zeder.

Neu's plays also include Aerobia, Him or Me, Basic Behavior, Mondo Beyondo, Undercurrent Incorporated and Target Audience: The Code of the Western. Tickets are available by calling (212) 475-7710 or by visiting

LaMaMa e.t.c. is located at 74A East 4th Street in Manhattan.
