News New Childs Musical Miracle Brothers Gets Private NYC Reading with Broadway Stars, Aug. 9 The upcoming world premiere Kirsten Childs musical Miracle Brothers, which is set to hit the Vineyard Theatre stage in 2005, will get a private New York City reading under the direction of Tina Landau, Aug. 9.

The cast of the Miracle Brothers reading features Jesse Tyler Ferguson, (On The Town), Kerry O'Malley (Into The Woods), Robert Jason Jackson (Aida), William Youmans (Wicked), Marva Hicks (Caroline, Or Change), Brandi Chavonne Massey (Caroline, Or Change), Anika Larsen (Zanna, Don't!), Tommar Wilson, Michael X. Martin, Michael Benjamin Washington, Nandi Walker and Stephanie Bast. Vineyard's first Kitty Carlisle Hart Musical Theatre Lab commission will come to fruition as the world premiere comes Off-Broadway. The work by Kirsten Childs (The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin) is set in 17th-century Brazil, where two brothers — one black, one white — escape their plantation life and head out on a string of adventures.

The reading will be directed by Tina Landau (Bells Are Ringing, Floyd Collins) with musical direction by Daryl Waters (Bring in 'Da Noise Bring in 'Da Funk). Childs pens the book, music and lyrics for the new musical.

The new season at the Vineyard will include the rock musical People Are Wrong! starring They Might Be Giants singer John Flansburgh, Gina Gionfriddo's Humana Festival hit black comedy After Ashley as well as the world premiere staging of Childs' Miracle Brothers.
