New Group artistic director Scott Elliott will direct the 7 PM evening that promises scenes from Hamlet. In addition to Gummer (Arcadia) and Hamilton (The Cherry Orchard), the presentation will include Lisa Emery (Sex Lives of Our Parents) and Wallace Shawn (Marie and Bruce). The cast will take part in a discussion following the performance.
According to the New Group, "'Hamlet at Home' centers around readings of scenes from Shakespeare's greatest family drama, featuring Hamilton as the prince, Shawn as Claudius and the Ghost, Emery as Gertrude and Gummer as Ophelia… This event is the culmination of an extended actor-driven exploration into the intimate side of the story."
Upcoming Dark Nights events include "Adapting Baal," which will feature Ethan Hawke, Jonathan Marc Sherman, Shelby & Latham Gaines (Feb. 12, 2012); and "Reflecting Rabe," exploring the work of playwright David Rabe (April 1, 2012).
Reservations are required. There is a $20 suggested donation. E-mail [email protected].
