News New Group to Honor Wallace Shawn and Fred Wistow May 9 The New Group will honor Aunt Dan and Lemon playwright and actor Wallace Shawn and former board member Fred Wistow at its 2011 gala, to be held May 9 at Capitale.

Actors Kristen Johnston and Frank Whaley will host the 6:30 PM evening, which will honor Shawn and Wistow with the Michael Mendelson Award for Outstanding Commitment to Theater.

The award was established in 2005 and has previously been presented to Robyn Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Ruth and Stephen Hendel, Wendy Ettinger and Derek McLane.

Shawn's plays also include Our Late Night (Obie Award), A Thought in Three Parts, Mourner and Grasses of a Thousand Colors, as well as the adaptation for the 2006 revival of The Threepenny Opera. As an actor, Shawn has appeared in Manhattan, Radio Days, Vanya on 42nd Street, The Fever and Hurlyburly. The New Group is currently staging a revival of his play Marie and Bruce through May 7.
