Kid Victory, the new musical from composer John Kander (Chicago, Cabaret) and playwright Greg Pierce (Slow Girl), has found its Off-Broadway cast. Tony nominee Liesl Tommy, who helmed the world premiere at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA, returns to direct the New York debut at the Vineyard Theatre.

Joining the production is Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba, a veteran of Kander’s musicals, who will step into the role of Eileen. She replaces Christiane Noll, who created the role in the Signature Theatre world-premiere of the musical last year.

The cast will also include Ann Arvia (Mary Poppins), Joel Blum (Steel Pier), Brandon Flynn (Thirteen Reasons Why), Daniel Jenkins (Mary Poppins), and Blake Zolfo (The Lightning Thief), as well as Laura Darrell (Frozen Live), and Jeffry Denman (White Christmas), who performed in the Signature staging. Additional casting will be announced.

Previews will begin February 1, 2017, with an opening night scheduled for February 22. Kid Victory marks the second collaboration between Kander and Pierce. Their first musical, The Landing, premiered at The Vineyard Theatre in 2013 and received critical acclaim.

The new musical is centered on the life of a teenager returning to a small Kansas town following a year-long absence from home. According to the Vineyard, “as his friendship grows with the town misfit, Emily, his parents realize that in order to truly find their son, they must confront some unnerving truths about his disappearance.”

The production will feature choreography by Christopher Windom (Dallas Theater Center’s Les Miserables), scenic design by Tony Award winner Clint Ramos (Eclipsed), costumes by Jacob Climer (Informed Consent), lighting by David Weiner (The Beautiful City), and sound design by Tony Award nominee Peter Hylenski (After Midnight). David Loud (The Scottsboro Boys) serves as music supervisor, Michael Starobin (Falsettos) as orchestrator, and Jesse Kissel (The Visit) as music director.

Kid Victory is a co-production with Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia.

The Vineyard Theatre is located at 108 15 Street, New York City. Tickets can be purchased by visiting Vineyardtheatre.org or by calling (212) 353-0303.
