News New Jubilee Initiative Asks Theatres to Produce Only Works by Women and Minorities in 2020-21 Season Rude Mechs co-producing artistic director Kirk Lynn is spearheading a campaign, entitled The Jubilee, to help change the gender disparity in the programming of theatres around the country.

Lynn, with the online platform HowlRound, is asking theatres around the country to only produce "work by women, people of color, artists of varied physical and cognitive abilities, and LBGTQA artists in the 2020-21 season."

Although the work of straight white males is produced in significant numbers, their exclusion from the initiative has drawn some complaint, according to americantheatre.org.

"I do think it’s worth noting that the people who personally told me they don’t like it for different reasons are all white men, which I don’t think is a mistake," Lynn told americantheatre.org. "I totally get it; I am a white man myself. I want my plays produced…I think it is a mindset in some ways, but when someone produces Lisa D'Amour's play, it doesn't mean that they are not producing mine."

According to the official website for The Jubilee, these theatres have currently signed on to the initiative:
