Set during the heyday of the New York nightclub Studio 54, the musical features characters based on nightclub creators Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager but focuses on a couple from Queens who get caught up in the nightclub scene. “The girl becomes a pop celeb in the [Andy] Warhol-like character’s orbit,” according to the New York daily. “The boy inherits the family home in Forest Hills, and is torn between the party life and a more traditional one.”
Trip Cullman directed the workshop, which featured Michael Esper as Rubell and Lindsay Mendez and Gideon Glick as the Queens couple.
No future plans have been announced for the new musical, although attending the workshop were Broadway producers John Hart, Jeffrey Richards and Tom Hulce.
