A new musical inspired by the songs of Huey Lewis and The News is in the works. Entitled Heart of Rock and Roll, the musical has a book by Jonathan Abrams, based on an original story by Tyler Mitchell and Abrams.

Director Gordon Greenberg (Holiday Inn) is attached to the project, which will feature hits such as “The Power of Love,” “Stuck with You,” “Hip to Be Square,” “If This Is It,” and more.

Huey Lewis and The News released 19 Billboard Top Ten singles during the ‘80s and ‘90s, three of them No. 1's, including the “The Power of Love,” which was nominated for both Academy and Grammy Awards. All five albums released by the band between 1982 and 1991 are certified Gold, Platinum, or Multi-Platinum.

Lewis made his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn in the long-running revival of Chicago.

No timeline has been announced for the musical.
