Moments of epiphany from the dawn of prehistoric man to cruising hardbodies at the gym illuminate Brett Kristofferson's new musical revue, The Man on the Rock, playing Mondays Sept. 23-Oct. 14 as an entry in the Chip Deffaa Invitational at Off-Off-Broadway's Chashama Theatre. Composer-lyricist Kristofferson also directs the evening of song.
A series of slices of life, The Man on the Rock visits the mind of the first man on earth at the moment he realizes what he is, a woman who figures out she was Annie Oakley in another life and a young man who has a chance encounter with a hot guy at a gym. Kristofferson's past works have included the revues This Love and Beginnings. He was nominated for a 2001 MAC Award for his song "The Whole Wide World."
The Man on the Rock features cabaret vets Kristy Cates, A.J. Irvin, Karen Mack, Marina Macneal, Matthew Moore, Sarah Tannehill and Danny Wiseman. Markus Britt is the musical director.
Tickets are $15. The Chashama Theatre is located at 111 West 42nd Street. For reservations, call (212) 206-1515.
