News New Off-Broadway Space, Barrow Street Theatre, Opens for Business The Greenwich House theatre space, formerly house to the Drama Dept., has reopened as the Barrow Street Theatre, a new Off-Broadway rental stage.

The Greenwich Village venue is run by producer Scott Morfee (Underneath the Lintel, Killer Joe). It features a flexible stage, which can be configured as a thrust or proscenium and boasts more than 600 square feet of playing space. The space can accommodate productions seeking up to 199 seats and is being made available to musicals, plays, readings and special events. Morfee said he is interested in accepting transfers of Off-Off-Broadway productions, as well as commercial rentals and partnerships with other troupes. Morfee may also produce some in-house mountings.

"Off-Broadway offers very few theatres that can flex from 99 to 199 seats, and few in that category can accommodate large casts and musicals; our space can do both," said Morfee in a statement.

Morfee will hold an open house in early December for interested parties. The theatre is located at 27 Barrow Street. Call (212) 243-6565.
