New Rock Musical Sherlock Holmes and the Poison Wood Will Premiere in U.K. | Playbill

International News New Rock Musical Sherlock Holmes and the Poison Wood Will Premiere in U.K.

Set in 2024 London, the musical follows a reimagined iteration of the famous detective as he tracks down an unexplained death in the infamous environmental protest camp.

New rock musical Sherlock Holmes and the Poison Wood will play England's Watermill Theatre early next year, marking its public world premiere. Co-produced with Metta Theatre, the musical will run February 2, 2024 through March 16.

The latest collaboration between writer and director P Burton-Morgan and composer Ben Glasstone (The Rhythmics, Cells), the musical is a modern adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, set in current day London.

When death suddenly descends upon an infamous environmental protest camp, Holmes is tasked with finding the truth at the heart of the many layers of obfuscation surrounding the case. When his arch nemesis, tech billionaire Jan Moriarty enters the fore, Holmes and his trusted inner circle (including his media savvy landlady and the nutritionist Dr. Watson) find themselves sifting through a haze of deepfakes and digital manipulation, all in the name of discerning fact from fiction.

The musical will be directed by Burton-Morgan, who has also provided the book and lyrics. Music and additional lyrics are by Ben Glasstone, with the production set to feature set and lighting design by William Reynolds, video design by Matt Powell, sound design by Beth Duke, and choreography by Mark Smith.

Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.
