News New Spotlight Cabaret Series Kicks Off Jan. 20 with Songs of Cunningham and Salzman The Spotlight Cabaret series at the Laurie Beechman Theatre kicks off Jan. 20 with an evening featuring I Love You Because creators Josh Salzman and Ryan Cunningham as guest composer and lyricist.

The series, which hopes to showcase the talents of rising performers and writers, is produced by Ryan Scott Oliver. The 7 PM concert also features the talents of vocalists David Austin, Tiana Checchia, Jaclyn Huberman, Jay A. Johnson and Adam Overett. The evening benefits the Society of Singers Chapter East. The organization, according to its website, "benefits the health and welfare of professional singers worldwide and awards scholarships to students pursuing an education in the vocal arts." Upcoming concerts in the Spotlight Cabaret series will feature guest writers Joe Iconis (February, directed by John Simpkins), Julianne Wick Davis (March, directed by Joe Barros), Kirsten A. Guenther (April, directed by Ryan Mekenian) and Danny Larsen (May, directed by Michelle Eliot). Laurence O'Keefe, Katie Thompson, The Dreams and GuyTunes will also appear during the series' first season.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located within the West Bank Café at 407 West 42nd Street at Ninth Avenue. There is a $10 cover charge and a $15 food/drink minimum; call (212) 695-6909 for reservations.
