Daniel Bohr will direct the Norwegian-language production that has been translated by Karen Hoffmann. The production will reflect the work of a new Danish creative team. Love Never Dies first premiered in London in 2010 and was reincarnated for a revised Australian production that opened to strong reviews in 2011.
The Danish production will reflect changes made to Love Never Dies since its London premiere. Love Never Dies has a score by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tony nominee Glenn Slater (Sister Act, The Little Mermaid). The book is by Lloyd Webber, Ben Elton and Slater. Phantom lyricist Charles Hart is also credited with additional lyrics for the latest incarnation of the sequel.
Love Never Dies is booking through April 2013.
Actors Bo Kristian Jensen and Tomas Ambt Kofod will alternate as the Phantom, with Louise Fribo as Christine, Christian Berg as Raoul, Marianna Mortensen as Madam Giry, Camille-Cathrine Rommedahl as Meg Giry, Kristin Norholt as Fleck and Steen Springborg as Squelch.
The production will have choreography by Hayley Franks Høier, scenic design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting design by Jason Taylor and sound design by Richard Sharratt. Per Engström will conduct. Completing the cast are Mark Agerskov, Sleiman Aoun, Joel Brekke, Kristine Marie Brendstrup, Gaute Grimeland, Jonas Holst, Linda Fabricius Hultemark, Anete Lotus Jensen, Anders Astrup Jensen, Kristian Jensen, Daniel Larsson, Anaïs Lueken, Mads Æbeløe Nielsen, Amy Nordqvist, Jesper Paasch, Jenny Asterius Persson, Ulla Sell, Maria Kiens Steenbøl, Anne Suppli, Anders Teigen, Cecilie Thiim and Randi Winther.
The children of Coney Island will be played by Anna Aunbirk, Mira Andrea Balloli, Albert Blicher Beknes, Shannon Sophie Damgaard, Oscar Dietz, Emilia Rambeck Foldgast, Rigmor Marie Glipstrup, Ruben Benjamin Schilhab Hansen, Caroline Bruun Ibsen, Regitze Ingleby, August Brandt Jelert, Natascha Jessen, Mathilde B. Kaysen, Carl-Emil Lohmann, Mathilde Clara Nyegaard, Simon Gustav Ulvsgaard, Nina Helms Valbro, Madeleine Steenberg Williams, Magnus Ørby and Magnus Ør.
The lushly scored sequel to Phantom traces the relationship of the Phantom and soprano Christine from Paris to Coney Island, where old romances continue to smolder as other loves and friendships shatter.
Love Never Dies first opened in London in March 2010 under the direction of Tony winner Jack O'Brien with choreography by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell. Critics weren't enchanted with the production, which underwent rewrites a few months into its London run. It closed Aug. 27, 2011, at the Adelphi Theatre. A Broadway production, announced for the Neil Simon Theatre, was indefinitely postponed.
While the London production was still running, Lloyd Webber gave his blessing for a new Australian creative team, led by director Simon Phillips, to take a fresh look at Love Never Dies, which took a darker, more menacing approach to the production. It debuted at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne in spring 2011. Love Never Dies later arrived in Sydney Jan. 12, 2012 and ended its run last April.
The Australian production was screened in cinemas globally and is currently available on DVD and Blu-ray.
Denmark marks the third production of Love Never Dies to be produced.
