News New Two-Disc "Mary Poppins" DVD to Feature Stage Footage A new two-disc special edition DVD of the classic film "Mary Poppins" — which will be released Jan. 27 — will feature footage from the stage production based on the 1964 movie musical.

In addition to the complete film starring Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke, the DVD will feature the 45-minute documentary "Mary Poppins: From Page to Stage." The documentary, according to press notes, "takes audiences behind the scenes for a close look at the creation of the stage musical produced by [Disney Theatrical Productions] and Cameron Mackintosh." Included are interviews with producers Cameron Mackintosh and Thomas Schumacher, composers George Stiles, Anthony Drewe and Richard Sherman and costume designer Bob Crowley. A roundtable discussion between Schumacher and actors Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee, Broadway's original Mary Poppins and Bert, is also part of this feature.

The new recording also includes the musical number "Step in Time" — featuring Brown, Lee and the Mary Poppins company — which was filmed in its entirety at the New Amsterdam Theatre, the current home of the family-friendly musical.

Richard Eyre directs Mary Poppins, which features choreography and co-direction by Matthew Bourne and boasts original songs from the film — with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman — as well as new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Julian Fellowes wrote the book.

The musical also features set and costume design by Bob Crowley, co-choreography by Stephen Mear, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design Steve Canyon Kennedy, orchestrations by William David Brohn, musical direction by Brad Haak and musical supervision by David Caddick.
