Classic Arts News New York Jazz Club Tonic May Be Evicted Tonic, one of New York's top venues for avant-garde jazz and electronic music, may have to close unless it can raise over $100,000 over the next few weeks.
According to the club's web site, Tonic has "suffered a series of blows," including rent that has doubled since the club opened in 1998, insurance costs that have tripled, and a series of expensive maintenance projects on the old building that houses the club, and is now facing eviction.

Throughout February, the club will be hosting fundraising events, including a concert on February 4 featuring Dimestore Danceband and the Vanity Set.

The club is also accepting donations at its web site, www.tonicnyc.com.

Tonic features music series programmed by such musicians and composers as John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, and Arto Lindsay.
