Fully funded by Hormel, the lunch meat company, The Black Label Bacon Strip Show will be presented one performance only, Nov. 6 at Marquee Nightclub and Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, and, as you might expect, the burlesque-type show features stripping bacon strips on the Las Vegas Strip.

"It’s crazy and insane," director Mikhael Tara Garver told Playbill.com, "but crazy and insane the way Vegas is—while still trying to feel artful and fun."

There will be dances about bacon, jokes about bacon, there will be a Stomp-style percussive frying-pan number, and, yes, as part of the immersive aspect of the show, they will fill the air with the smell of real sizzling bacon, and serve it to the (presumably non-kosher-observant) members of the audience.

Garvin, whose background includes being a member of Off-Broadway's Woodshed Collective, which specializes in immersive theatre, said Hormel approached her to make what used to be called an "industrial" show—essentially a live infomercial onstage, "but they said, 'We want you to do a show, a real show, that doesn't feel like marketing.'"

So she and her team cooked up a revue-style show with a through line. The emcee (played by Off-Broadway actor Eric Slater) is trying to rediscover "old school" Las Vegas, in which his grandmother was a showgirl. The show is divided into four sections, each built around a different flavor of Black Label bacon: cherrywood, pecanwood, brown sugar and jalapeño. In the cherrywood section, for example, a group of dancers discover a being in a forest of cherry trees. As she removes her gloves, her cape and finally her gown, she is revealed as a bacon strip, with a wild bacon headdress.

Aside from the Stomp homage, the show also pays tribute to choreographer Bob Fosse.

Costumes are designed by Sarah Cubbage, who served as assistant designer on the Broadway shows Bullets Over Broadway, Big Fish, Godspell, Master Class and Scandalous.
