Slanguage is the latest work from Universes, a troupe of five South Bronx- based performers. The show combines poetry, jazz, hip-hop, politics, blues and Spanish boleros. The piece is directed and developed by Jo Bonney (References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot).

The Universes' wordsmiths include Gamal Abdel Chasten, Lemon, Flaco Navajo, Mildred Ruiz and Stephen Sapp. The group encompass many vocations such as spoken-word performer, percussionist, lyricist, singer, playwright, director, poet and Flamenco dancer.

The show features set design by Scott Plask, lights by James Vermeulen, sound by Darron West and projections by Robin Silvestri. Carlos Valdez serves as music consultant.

For tickets to see Slanguage at NYTW, 79 East Fourth Street, (between Bowery and Second Ave.), call Tele-charge at (212) 239-6200. — by Ernio Hernandez
