The original The Ride coach

New York's unique traveling theatre, The Ride, which ended its theatrical journey in October 2022 after 12 years and 30,414 performances, will return to Manhattan later this month.

Previews will begin April 21 with an official opening April 28. Performances will be held Thursdays-Sundays with Monday and Wednesday shows to be added this summer.

Guided by two hosts, the custom-built, sideways-facing coach originally rolled into Times Square October 14, 2010. During the 75-minute entertainment, an eclectic mix of performers—from ballerinas to freestyle rappers—are scattered around the city, blending in with street life for an element of surprise. The original run was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.

“We had no idea there would be such an outpouring of support when The Ride announced it was closing back in October 2022,” explains new owner Mark Fayer. “Fans from all over the world who had seen the show multiple times wrote to say they’d wanted to come back, to bring the kids, and so on. It was wonderful. So here we are! We have updated the script and the tech, we were able to hire back most of the hosts, performers, and technicians—which was fantastic—and we’re currently in rehearsals. I’ve no doubt we’re coming back bigger and better than ever.”
