News Next to Normal to Launch National Tour in November The Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, which recently recouped its initial $4 million investment following a year on Broadway at the Booth Theatre, will launch its national tour in Los Angeles in November.

Performances at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre will begin Nov. 23 and run through Jan. 2, 2011. The tour will also play San Diego, Seattle, Hartford, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, St. Paul, Philadelphia, Charlotte and Washington, DC. Additional cities are expected.

Producer David Stone stated, "Having recently celebrated our one-year anniversary on Broadway, we are now very excited to announce the national tour plans for Next to Normal. We are continually heartened by the audience's overwhelming reaction to our show, and we look forward to bringing this contemporary and emotionally powerful new musical to major cities beginning this fall."

Casting for the tour will be announced at a later date.

Next to Normal, directed by Michael Greif, arrived on Broadway in March 2009 following an Off-Broadway run at Second Stage and a regional engagement at the Arena Stage in Washington, DC.

The musical won Tonys for Best Orchestrations, Best Score and Best Leading Actress in a Musical. The original cast recording is available on the Ghostlight Records label. The Broadway cast features 2009 Tony Award winner Alice Ripley (Side Show, Sunset Boulevard), J. Robert Spencer (original cast of Jersey Boys) and Jennifer Damiano (Spring Awakening) as well as Kyle Dean Massey, Adam Chanler-Berat and Louis Hobson.

Next to Normal, which was penned by Tony winners Tom Kitt (music) and Brian Yorkey (book and lyrics), is "a contemporary musical that explores how one suburban household copes with crisis. . . . [The musical] shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family's world intact," according to production notes.

The Broadway production features set design by Mark Wendland, costume design by Jeff Mahshie, lighting design by Kevin Adams and sound design by Brian Ronan. The creative team also includes Sergiio Trujillo (musical staging), Charlie Alterman (musical direction), Michael Starobin and Tom Kitt (orchestrations) and AnnMarie Milazzo (vocal arrangements).

Broadway producers are David Stone, James L. Nederlander, Barbara Whitman, Patrick Catullo and Second Stage Theatre.
