Off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre will now kick off its 2016-17 season November 3 with Nicky Silver’s This Day Forward, a new comedy about love, marriage and the secrets of one’s past, helmed by Mark Brokaw. The season was originally set to launch with the New York premiere of Kid Victory, a new musical by John Kander and Gregory Pierce, which is now slated for next winter.

The world premiere of This Day Forward will officially open November 21, with a cast to be announced shortly.

The production reunites Silver and Brokaw following their work on The Lyons, which debuted at the Vineyard starring Linda Lavin and went on to play a Broadway engagement.

Here is how the Vineyard bills the new work by Silver: “In this new comedy about love and marriage and everything in-between, Martin thinks he has just married the girl of his dreams, but when Irene makes a surprising confession in their honeymoon suite, all their well-made plans fall apart. Nearly 50 years later, Irene’s children wrestle with their past and a mother whose secrets are quickly fading along with her memory.”

This Day Forward will feature scenic design by Allen Moyer (Dot, They Lyons), costumes by Kaye Voyce (Ironbound), lighting by David Lander (The Lyons), and original music and sound design by David Van Tieghem (Billy & Ray).

Kid Victory is now slated for winter 2017. The new musical features a story by Kander and Pierce, music by Kander, and book and lyrics by Pierce. The story follows 17-year-old Luke, who returns to his small Kansas town following a one-year absence. Liesl Tommy, who helmed the world premiere at the Signature Theatre, returns to direct.
