The film, which is based on Brent Hartinger's young-adult novel of the same name, will also include Meaghan Martin ("Camp Rock"), Cameron Deane Stewart, Justin Deeley, Andrew Caldwell, Allie Gonino and Ally Maki. Gary Entin will direct the project, which is penned by Edmund Entin. The novel—the first book in "The Russell Middlebrook Series"—follows a group of high school students who form an after-school club because they feel like outsiders due to their sexual orientation. Hartinger later adapted the book into a play, which premiered at the Seattle FringeACT Festival of New Plays in 2004.
Michael Huffington and Anthony Bretti are producing the film, which began production this week in and around Los Angeles.
Executive producers are Frederick Levy and Bryan Leder; co-executive producers are Joe Dain and John Schwartz.
