The production, directed by Joanna Settle, will have played 205 regular performances and 6 previews. Nine Parts of Desire, a one-woman show that was a hit in Britain, recently received Lucille Lortel Awards for Best Solo Show and Best Sound Design and was also nominated for a 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Solo Performance.
Following its Off-Broadway run, Nine Parts will open at the Geffen Playhouse after Labor Day. A national tour at non-profit theatres in Seattle; Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Dallas; and San Francisco is also scheduled, and the text of Raffo's work will be published in the fall by Northwestern University Press.
Nine Parts of Desire, according to production notes, is "a portrait of the extraordinary (and ordinary) lives of a whole cross-section of Iraqi women, [which] lifts the veil on exactly what it means to be female in the age-old war zone that is Iraq."
The creative team for Nine Parts comprises Antje Ellerman (set design), Mattie Ullrich (costume design), Peter West (lighting design) and Obadiah Eaves (original music and sound design).
