Symphony's popular annual series, "Selected Shorts: A Celebration of the Short Story," will, as usual, feature some of the best actors working in the theatre. Among the performers lending their voice to literature are David Strathairn, Barbara Barrie, Philip Bosco, Keira Naughton, Cynthia Nixon, Stockard Channing, Cherry Jones, Rita Moreno, Blair Brown, Hope Davis, Lili Taylor, Angelina Phillips, Kathleen Chalfant and Stephen Lang. The series begins on Jan. 31 and runs nearly every Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM until June 6.
Many of the actors who will be reading stories by the likes of Anton Chekhov, Luc Sante, Larry McMurtry, Raymond Carver and Amy Tan, are currently, or soon will be, working on Broadway and Off-Broadway. Among these are Viola Davis (King Hedley II), Kate Burton (Hedda Gabler), Liev Schreiber (Betrayal), Robert Sean Leonard (The Invention of Love), Harris Yulin (Hedda Gabler) and Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Lackawanna Blues).
Tickets are $18, $14 for members. For information of specific appearances and which selections will be read when, call (212) 864-5400, or consult www.symphonyspace.org.
