Directed by Nancy Robillard, the Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt musical, based on The Fourposter by Jan de Hartog, spans five decades in the life of a married couple, played by Amy Bodnar (Ragtime, Oklahoma!) and Craig Waletzko (Young Frankenstein, Monty Python’s Spamalot).

The production, running through Sept. 4, features choreography by Sharon Halley with musical direction by Jeremy Randall.

I Do! I Do!, according to Surflight notes, is "the story of Michael (Waletzko) and Agnes (Bodnar) and their 50 years of marriage, [which] famously takes place around a large four-poster bed and introduced the standard, 'My Cup Runneth Over.'"

The creative team also includes scenic designer Andrew Reidemann, costume designer Caitlin Reed, lighting designer Marciel Greene, sound designer Nevin Steinberg, sound engineer Tae Jong Park and production stage manager Amanda Kosack.

I Do! I Do! was originally written as a star vehicle for Mary Martin and Robert Preston. The original Broadway production received seven Tony Award nominations, with Preston winning Best Actor. I Do! I Do! opened at Broadway’s 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rodgers) Dec. 5, 1966, and ran for 561 performances. It received an Off-Broadway revival at the Lamb’s Theatre in 1996 and starred Karen Ziemba and David Garrison.

The show has music by Schmidt with a book and lyrics by Jones. Schmidt and Jones are the authors of Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals including The Fantasticks, 110 in the Shade and Celebration.

Surflight Theatre is located at 201 Engleside Avenue, Beach Haven, NJ. For more information and tickets, call (609) 492-9477 or visit www.surflight.org.
