News NJPAC Cancels Limited Run of Other Side of Newark The new production of Enid Rudd's The Other Side of Newark, which was scheduled for a June 19-29 engagement at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, has been canceled.

A spokesperson for NJPAC told Playbill.com that the production was canceled due to "scheduling issues that arose. This show was originally scheduled to be performed here earlier in the season but had to be moved to a later date, the current one. In the iterim, other programming and events were scheduled in the space. It would have involved striking and loading the set several times to accommodate the other needs for the venue."

The play, according to press notes, is set in the 1930s when "a young, Jewish school teacher takes a position at a predominantly black school in Newark, where she mentors a promising 11-year-old student from an impoverished home. Five decades later, the two meet in a hospital room, where they re-examine the complex history of their relationship."

Newark-born playwright Rudd is also the author of Peterpat, The Ashes of Mrs. Reasoner, Does Anybody Here Do the Peabody?, Step Out of Line, Dearest Cousin and Rumors in the Palace. NJPAC is located at One Center Street in downtown Newark, NJ. For more information visit visit www.njpac.org.
