News NJPAC Season to Include Producers, Hairspray, Movin' Out and More Several award-winning musicals will be presented during the 2006-2007 season at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

The NJPAC Broadway Series will kick off with Mel Brooks' The Producers, which is based on the 1968 film of the same name. The Tony-winning musical, which concerns a conniving producer named Max Bialystock and his partner Leo Bloom, will play the New Jersey venue Dec. 19-24.

Another Tony-winning musical will follow, Hairspray, which is also based on a motion picture. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray follows the adventures of Tracy Turnblad, a "big girl with big dreams." Featuring such songs as "Good Morning, Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat," Hairspray will play NJPAC Jan. 30, 2007-Feb. 4.

Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin are celebrated in The Rat Pack — Live from Las Vegas, which will run March 20-25. The cast, which is backed by a 15-piece orchestra, will offer such Rat Pack standards as "Witchcraft," "Night and Day" and "Strangers in the Night."

I Can't Stop Lovin' You, which played London's West End, will arrive at NJPAC April 3 and play through April 8. This revue of Ray Charles songs features gospel, blues, soul, jazz, country and swing tunes, including "Georgia On My Mind," "Hit the Road Jack," "You Don't Know Me," "Crying Time" and "Unchain My Heart."

The Broadway musical season at NJPAC concludes with the Billy Joel musical Movin' Out. Audiences will hear 24 Joel classics in this dance-driven piece, which was choreographed and directed by Tony Award winner Twyla Tharp. Movin' Out will dance in to the NJPAC June 5 for a run through June 9. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is located at One Center Street in Newark, NJ.
