News Nonesuch's "Sweeney Todd" Soundtrack Slices Up Billboard Charts The Nonesuch Records release of the soundtrack to Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd" film climbed the Billboard charts this week.

Released on Dec. 18, the album debuted on the "Top Soundtracks" chart last week at No. 8 — just behind this year's other Broadway-based movie musical, "Hairspray." The "Sweeney" recording jumped five spots to No. 3 on this week's chart. ("Hannah Montana 2" and "High School Musical 2" placed at the top.)

"Sweeney Todd" also climbed to No. 4 (from No. 7) on the "Top Digital Albums" chart and to No. 23 (from No. 56) on "The Billboard 200."

Nonesuch also saw a bump in sales for the recent new Broadway cast recording of Sweeney Todd (the revival's album notched No. 11 on "Top Cast Albums" this week after it re-entered the chart at No. 14 last week). The new Tim Burton film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical also spurred the original Sweeney Todd cast recording (on RCA Red Seal) into the top five (at No. 5) following its debut on the same countdown last week (at No. 11).
