News North Shore Music Theatre Relaunches July 6 with Gypsy North Shore Music Theatre, the popular in-the-round Massachusetts theatre that shuttered due to debt in 2009, reopens July 6 with the classic Stephen Sondheim-Arthur Laurents-Jule Styne musical Gypsy: Vicki Lewis ("NewsRadio," Broadway's Damn Yankees, Chicago) heads the cast as Rose.

Directed and choreographed by Richard Sabellico, the musical will play the Massachusetts venue through July 25 with an official opening scheduled for July 8 at 7:30 PM.

Lewis is joined onstage by Nisa Ari, Richard Bell, John Allen Biles, Jack Doyle, Alliy Drago, Hayley Driscoll, Amanda Frennier, Laurie Gamache (Tessie Tura), Sarah Hicks, Tony Johnson, Amanda Lea LaVergne (June), Trey Mitchell, Matthew Moore, Jan Neuberger (Electra), Marty Passante, Jacquelyn Piro Donovan (Mazeppa), Eric Shorey, Sarah Safer (Baby June), Matthew Simpkins, Diane Terrusa, Catherine Walker (Louise), Kirby Ward (Herbie) and Pearce Wegener (Tulsa).

Local children performing include Andover, MA, resident Aliya Victoriya Druth (age 9); Gloucester, MA, residents Andrew Murdock (age 11), Cheyenne Beauparlant (age 11), Heather Beauparlant (age 9), and Isaac Beauparlant (age 6); Millis, MA, residents Uatchet Juch (age 10) and Nekhebet Juch (age 10); Peabody, MA, residents Harrison Gray (age 11) and Shane Braz (age 10); Salem, MA, resident Leo Santoro (age 11); Winchester, MA, resident Hannah Piispanen, (Baby Louise, age 10); and Woburn, MA, resident Harold McDavid (age 6).

The creative team also includes Nick DeGregorio (musical director), Campbell Baird (scenic designer), Jose Rivera (costume coordinator), Jack Mehler (lighting designer), James McCartney (sound designer) and Gerard Kelly (wig designer).

Gypsy features a score by Jule Styne (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) and a book by Arthur Laurents. The musical bowed on Broadway in May 1959 at the Broadway Theatre, playing 702 performances before closing at the Imperial Theatre, where it later transferred, on March 25, 1961. Ethel Merman created the role of Rose in the original production; subsequent Broadway Roses include Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone. Merman and Peters were Tony-nominated for their performances; Lansbury, Daly and LuPone won the coveted award.
