News North Shore Shrek The Musical Casts Its Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey and More Casting has been announced for the North Shore Music Theatre's upcoming production of Shrek The Musical, which will play the Beverly, MA, venue July 7-19.

Based on the story and characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film from 2001, the cast will be headed by Lukas Poost (Shrek), Lauren Wiley (Princess Fiona), Dwayne Clark (Donkey), Benjamin Howes (Lord Farquaad) and Jacqueline Arnold (Dragon).

The ensemble includes Jillian Butler, Jake Ryan Flynn, Miranda Gelch, Katy Geraghty, Michael Greer, Grace Hardin, Emily Kelly Brady D. Patsy, Haven Pereira, Will Porter, David Purdy, Robbie Roby, Harrison Sturgeon, Jesse Swimm, Correy West and Paige Wheat.

Michael Heitzman will direct with choreography by Mara Greer.

Shrek has music by Jeanine Tesori, and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. The musical, studded with R&B, jazz, rock, power ballads and old-fashioned show tunes, received eight 2009 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, winning for Best Costume Design of a Musical (Tim Hatley).

The show "tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren't only found in fairy tales." The creative team also includes Michael Gacetta (musical direction), Nate Bertone (scenic design), Paula Peasley-Ninestein (costume coordinator), Dan Efros (lighting design), Timothy Schmidt (sound design), Michael King (makeup design), John Godbout (production stage manager), Rachel Policare (assistant stage manager), Cynthia Kortman Westphal (assistant music director) and Binder Casting (casting).

Shrek is produced for North Shore Music Theatre by Bill Hanney (owner/producer), Kevin P. Hill (artistic director) and Tom Amos (associate producer).
