The Gramercy Theatre will present the two-hander Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 11 PM. The production is part of the Plaza Theatre's Late Night Cabaret series. The cast will feature Jack Noseworthy (Sweet Smell of Success, A Chorus Line, Jerome Robbins' Broadway) as Jamie and Melissa Minyard (Les Miserables) as Kathy. Dan Roche directs with musical direction by John B. deHaas.
The Last Five Years— which features book, music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown — charts the rise and fall of the marriage between Kathy and Jamie over a period of five years. The conceit of The Last Five Years has the woman beginning her story at the end of the relationship and working her way back, while Jamie's story starts from the first date and works forward. They sing together only once, in the middle of the play, at their wedding. Song titles include "Still Hurting," "A Summer in Ohio," "The Next Ten Minutes," "I Can Do Better Than That," "Nobody Needs to Know" and "Goodbye Until Tomorrow."
Jason Robert Brown is currently represented on Broadway with the new musical 13.
