News Nottage's By the Way, Meet Vera Stark Gets Extra Week at Off-Broadway's Second Stage Lynn Nottage's new comedy By the Way, Meet Vera Stark is still in previews at Second Stage Theatre, but its Off-Broadway run is being extended by one week, now to May 29.

Jo Bonney directs the play by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Ruined. The production will officially open May 9.

Nottage "draws upon the screwball films of the 1930s to take a funny and irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood," following "the 70-year journey through the life of Vera Stark (Tony Award nominee Sanaa Lathan, of Raisin in the Sun), a headstrong African-American maid and budding actress, and her tangled relationship with her boss, a white Hollywood star (Stephanie J. Block) desperately grasping to hold on to her career."

The cast also features Tony Award nominee Daniel Breaker, Tony Award nominee David Garrison, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Kevin Isola, Tony Award nominee Sanaa Lathan and Tony Award winner Karen Olivo.

By the Way, Meet Vera Stark features scenic design by Neil Patel, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, costume design by ESosa and original music & sound design by John Gromada.
